We know fragrance—now. But not so much when we started, which is why we turned to experts like Anne Serrano-McClain and Chandler Burr, amongst others, to help us get our bearings.

And now, as we explore new realms beyond fragrance, we’ve sought out expert assistance yet again. Folks who had deep knowledge in different product categories, and who shared our beliefs and values—and of course have a good sense of humor.

Well, as luck would have it, good folks were just down the road—our fellow Austinites at Texas Beauty Labs. They know deodorant, body wash and body lotion. And as it just so happens, we’re getting into the business of making deodorant, body wash and body lotion. (More on those in a minute.)

In fact, they created the Internet’s best-selling natural deodorant, so they know a thing or three about crafting great-smelling products that are also made with integrity. And since that’s sort of our whole thing, we thought we should get to know each other better. Here’s what we’ve learned.

First of all, we learned the story of Texas Beauty Labs. It begins in 2003, when Mary Berry started making sugar scrubs at her home in Pflugerville, Texas. From there, she built a business called b.pure, selling handmade essential oils and lip balm in more than 300 stores nationwide.

Then in 2007, she somehow found time to start a side business, eventually named Texas Beauty Labs, crafting and supplying all-natural scented products, including candles and deodorants. This will not surprise you, but this side business became her main business, as one of her clients became that aforementioned best-selling natural deodorant on the internet.

When that company was bought by a big conglomerate, the company left Texas Beauty Labs. Never the kind to wait around for the next opportunity, Mary—and her nearly all-female team—thought our co-founder’s Eric’s idea to start a new business selling her own deodorant sounded pretty good. So we all partnered together on that deodorant, and the end result is called Explore Naturals. It’s available now on Amazon.com, and we promise it will change your life (or at the very least not suck like most of the natural deodorants out there).

Simply put, you won’t find a better, longer-lasting natural deodorant on the market. It’s 100% natural and aluminum-free, and leaves out the bad stuff you wouldn’t want to rub under your arms anyway. There are no parabens or phthalates, and the ingredients were sourced without using animal cruelty. We tested these products during a long Austin summer, so we can guarantee they’re strong enough to handle whatever your day will bring. Oh, and they smell amazing. (No surprise, given we helped on that front.)

Texas Beauty Labs also partnered with us on our new botanically-derived body wash and body lotion. These products also smell amazing (obviously), and are also made with the utmost integrity—no parabens, phthalates, sulfates, artificial colors, gluten or other harmful ingredients. (And again, no animal cruelty.)

We’re kicking this category off with Hanami—after all, it’s our most popular fragrance, not to mention our creamiest, which made it a natural fit for lotionizing. (That’s what we’re calling it when you take a fragrance and turn it into a lotion: lotionizing.)

Which fragrance will we lotionize (and, uh, body wash-onize) next? That’s under wraps for now, but here’s a clue: It rhymes with Schmolmsted and Fox. Look for it later this fall.
